ROME - LAZIO

I spent 5 nights in Rome during my time in Italy. There is so much to see and it is very walkable (although the paving stones can be a tad old).

ROME

Town Map
Rome, the city, was the centre of a vast empire lasting hundreds of years. Rome was established over 2000 years ago on the Tiber river between seven hills. It contains a rich assortment of buildings, art and artifacts from that time and the modern city has grown around these.
The Colosseum, Arch of Constantine and Forum

The Roman Forum
Caesar's Temple of Venus Genetrix
A Roman road behind the Forum. Column dedicated to the Emporer Phocus. It was the last monument built in the Forum.

Monument to Vittorio Emanuele II
The view from the Vittorio Emanuele looking down the piazza. The road leading off this is the Via Del Corsa. Muscelini delivered his speeches from the Palazzo Venezia's balcony.

Capitoline Hill
Caster and Pollux flank the entrance to the Capitoline Hill. Palazzo Senatorio, Rome City Hall flanked by the Capitoline Museums.
Caster and Pollux are obviously to big to ride their horses. The Capitoline Museums house the original bronze of this.
Theatre of Marcellus
These are now up market apartments.

Via Del Corso
The Via Del Corso is one of the three main streets leading from the Piazza Popolo. Lined with shops, it runs to the Vittorio Emanuele II monument.
