Italian Lake District Regional Map
Lake Maggiore is the largest of the picturesque Italian lakes. We first ventured in to Switzerland to town of Lugano on the shores of Lake Lugano. We returned to Italy staying on the shores of Lake Maggiore at a town called Baveno near Stresa. We visited the palace and gardens on the Borromean Island of Isola Bella.
Isola dei Pescatori or Isola Superiore is the fisherman's island. Isola Bella, where we visited.
Leaving Baveno for the islands of the Borromean We pass the Fisherman's Island and land on Isola Bella to visit the Borromeo Palace and Gardens.
Waterfront housing can be very expensive, yet many are only holiday homes.
The tiny uninhabited rock of Malghera (described by our guide as the "lover's island"), lies between Isola Bella and Isola dei Pescatori A model of the Rocca Borromeo as seen on the tour of Isola Bella. The Castle of Rocca Borromeo itself.
The big pot-plants made us humans look smurf sized!
We circle the island on the way back to Baveno. So the following pictures are the island from various angles.
